Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 20: Mission Inde UAM, the Indian student community, and the Jatti Foundation, with the support of Yes We Can and Clean Oceans India, have managed to quicken the conscience of the localites regarding their social responsibilities.

The community organization Jetty has remained in the picture of social service and welfare for the poor through it's various social programmes for 5 years now. Initiatives such as 'Project Vidyadegula 2.0' and Ocean Sustainability efforts combined to an effective formula.'Project Vidyadegula 2.0' came into limelight last year.

The project was launched with a mission to make good quality education alongside better infrastructure accessible to the underprivileged regions of Karnataka.

With this intention, it established a partnership with 14 students from the School of Odensia in France who had come to extract practical insights of social welfare.

This year, the partnership brought second batch of students and managed to transform an old building into a functional school. Essential infrastructure was provided to foster quality education.

This new world was to be different from the old. They repurposed a ship cargo box into a library with rich reserves of knowledge.

The initiative is in collaboration with UAM which aims to offer community service for developing and backward countries through action driven programs and exchange opportunities.

Another notable effort was directed towards the coastal region. Their agenda was maintaining the ecological balance for ocean sustainability and for promoting ocean tourism.

The students from France, alongwith the local volunteers, took part in an ocean sustainability programme in Mangaluru. They cleaned the Ullal beach and the Ullal seaboard, as well as in Manipal. Over three tonnes of plastic waste were collected and properly disposed of. This performance set ripples among the localites who became serious participants in conserving the environment.

Their hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. The vice chancellor of Mangalore University honoured the students involved in this endeavour.
