Bangalore: Governor Rejects Justice Bannurmath's Name for Lokayukta Post

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 3: Karnataka government’s search for a blemish-less personality to head its Lokayukta institution does not seem to end, as allegations of wrongdoings have been cropping against every judge it has in mind for the post. Hopes of Chief Minister (CM), D V Sadananda Gowda, who had expressed confidence that Justice Bannurmath, whose name was recommended for the post of the Lokayukta by the government would be approved, as it is almost impossible to find a person who has not committed any mistakes, have been dashed.

The Governor has asked the Chief Minister to recommend another name for the post. He told the CM that he has received various complaints against Justice Bannurmath from organizations and associations, and that the media has carried news about the fact that he had built home in a CA site. Therefore, he has asked for recommendation of a person of indisputable reputation for the post.

On an invitation from the Governor, the CM met him on Wednesday evening and held discussions. Justice Bannurmath’s name was recommended, and the Governor had kept the file pending with him since October 26. Sources said that the CM was accompanied by officials alone during the discussions, and none of his cabinet colleagues were there. The discussions also covered topics like law and order, development projects, legislature session proposed to be held in December etc, they added.

The post of the Lokayukta of the state has remained vacant since the last one and half month, after Justice Shivraj Patil resigned from the post within two weeks of his appointment as Lokayukta.

Ismail, I am sorry your knowledge of the constitution is very poor. CM will not be able to appoint Lokayukta without Governors approval, esle the CM's will choose their own relatives to head this function and continue corruption unabated.

Stephen Menezes, Shirthady, well in democratic set of ruling CM has the sovereign power over anybody in the state who has constitutional power.Guv is just rubber stamp of state as well as President of India.Every thing is clearly depicted in the constitution. In past there had been a commission(SARKARIYA COMMISSION) which had given report on center- state relations. After Bommai episode, SC had given verdict about the role of GUV.Except Yeddy's sanction for prosecution, all his (GUV)actions deemed null and void which is history.Bannurmath's antecedents good or bad is a subject of Ruling party and if in the case of just like Shivaraj Patil then popularly elected govt's problem. What if DVS again sends same name to Guv........

Unfortunately we have biased Governor in Karnataka State which is not going well with State Functionary. What Karnataka State should do that we bring one much tainted Ex-Chief Justice of High or Supreme Court who favoured Congress Government in past. Then I bet Governor will refuse to appoint him as Lokayukta Chief thinking that why BJP favour this Chief Justice even though he favoured Congress in the Past

Givernor has acted aptly, you cannot appoint a person as Ombudsman when there are allegations leave alone proven or convicted as this pisition is of the highest order to investiagte corruptions. Those who have commented negatively about Governors decision do not seem to be understanding the importance of this role.

How to believe this judge Bannurmath, appointed by corrupt BJP Govt? Lokayukta is a judicial post and hence needs to be appointed by supreme court as they know who is the right person for this position.
    Jai hoooo Guv.

Gov rejects Justice Bannurmath's Name for Lokayukta Post because of some allegations. However the same Governor has a FIR registered against him and he still continues in his post. This Gov is the worst among all who has no ethics and corrupt to core.

The first shot was fired@ DVS govt by GUV.I think recommendation from the popularly elected govt should be honored by GUV.Right to appoint Lokayukta solely rest with ruling party and in this regard GUV's diktat not good for democracy.
