Mangaluru, Jul 22: Thieves struck again in the city on Sunday, attempting to burgle two houses in Padavinangady during the early hours.

In the first incident, the thieves entered a house in the Mahatma Nagara extension around 1:45 am, after opening the main gate and another steel gate near the front door. They tried to break the door with an iron rod. The residents were awakened, turned on the lights, and screamed, causing the thieves to flee. The residents immediately informed the police and neighbours. Kavoor police rushed to the scene promptly.

In the second incident, a group of about four people attempted to burgle the Prasanna Ganapati temple at Perlaguri. Residents of houses near the temple noticed the light from the thieves' torch and woke up. When they switched on the outside lights, they saw someone running away near the temple. The act was captured on CCTV.

Kavoor police are investigating both cases. The thieves are taking advantage of the incessant rains that have been lashing the district for the past few weeks.
