Udupi, Jul 22: Udupi district in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar visited various coastal areas affected by sea erosion and agricultural damage on July 21, and instructed the concerned officials to submit a report on the losses. However, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna made a childish remark suggesting that the district minister's visit was merely a beach outing. This statement proves him to be an ignorant legislator, said Ramesh Kanchan, president of the Udupi Block Congress Committee.
"The information about the district visit of the in-charge minister is communicated to the district's Lok Sabha members, Rajya Sabha members, all MLAs, and senior officials of various departments. If the local MLA had genuine public concerns, he could have accompanied the minister to the disaster-affected areas, discussed the issues, and tried to secure maximum relief. Instead, Yashpal Suvarna has chosen to make irresponsible statements, forgetting the dignity of his legislative position and acting recklessly like a rogue," Kanchan said.
Kanchan said, "The people of the Udupi Assembly constituency have elected him to develop the region. Therefore, he should prioritise responding to the people's hardships and maintain a good relationship with the district in-charge minister and the government for the betterment of the constituency."
"He should remember his role as an MLA and work diligently for the people of Udupi, serving as a model rather than making frivolous remarks," Ramesh Kanchan said in a press statement.
