Alliance College of Engineering and Design triumphs at International Robotics Championship

Bengaluru, Jul 23: Alliance College of Engineering and Design has achieved significant acclaim at the prestigious International Robotics Championship, Robo Roar Z International 2K24, held at the Singapore University of technology and design. This landmark event, co-organized by The James Dyson foundation and Wefaa Robotics, brought together 52 teams from six countries, including China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

In their debut participation, the Alliance College team exhibited exceptional talent and skill, securing 2nd place in the Smorphi Imaginary category and 4th place in the Smorphi Robotics category. The accomplished team comprised Sheshadri Keshavaiah, 4th year, Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) Sudhir Ramanjaneyulu, 2nd year, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Edward Raj Dhanasekar, 2nd year, EEE, Nanditha Devanga Neelakanta, Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Teja Sreya Adinarayana, CSE.

They were accompanied by Dr Harinath Aireddy, director of the Centre of Excellence - makerspace and additive manufacturing, department of ECE, who provided unwavering support and guidance.

The competition, held at the SUTD Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) on July 13-14, was divided into two categories: Smorphi Imaginary and Smorphi Robotics. In the Smorphi Imaginary category, participants utilized the Smorphi Imaginary Virtual Robot platform to tackle the lifestyle robotic challenge. This task involved programming a robot to deliver food to a dining area across three rooms with obstacles, aiming to complete the task with the fewest lines of code in the shortest time. The team split into two groups, each employing different strategies to optimize the code and minimize completion time.

The Smorphi Robotics category required participants to program robots using AI-powered detection. The robots had to navigate designated areas, assist users, and complete assigned tasks, including following a line and scanning 18 QR tags placed in the arena. The QR tags were divided into point tags and action tags, with varying point values assigned based on the color detected by the robot's RGB LED (150 points for red, 100 points for green, and 50 points for blue). The action tags directed the robot's movements, with all operations managed by the Husky Lens integrated into the Smorphi robot. The final scores were based on the number of points accumulated and the time taken to complete the path.

Their combined efforts demonstrated their engineering prowess and innovative thinking, ensuring the team's outstanding performance in the competition. The university also provided essential funding support, covering the students' expenses to attend the program. Alliance College of Engineering and Design is immensely proud of its students' achievements and looks forward to participating in future events, furthering their commitment to excellence in engineering and robotics.

Dr Aireddy and his team ensured the students had access to cutting-edge facilities and unwavering support, which were crucial in their journey to success at RoboRoarZ 2K24. The Makerspace team's dedication to fostering practical skills and nurturing creativity was a key factor in the team's accomplishments.
