Mangalore: Inebriated Medical Students Assault Tempo Driver

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 4: In an incident that occurred near Valencia in the city late night on Wednesday November 2, some medical students beat up the driver of the Tempo Traveller vehicle hired by them and his friend, for refusing to ferry them to Manipal.

Seven male and six female students from a medical college in Manipal had come to a bar in Valencia on Wednesday night for partying. At around 9 pm, they called up a nearly travel agent to book a Tempo Traveller vehicle for taking them back to Manipal.  The agent contacted Raghuvir Bhagawat, and asked him to pick up the students from the bar concerned.

Raghuvir parked his vehicle near the said bar, and waited. After waiting for long, he called up the students. They promised to come soon, but approached him at around 11.30 pm. After observing that the students were heavily drunk and not in their senses, Bhagawat refused to carry them. Angered, the students assaulted Bhagawat and his friend, Harishchandra, who was with the driver, it is said.

Harishchandra, who was badly injured, was admitted into a private hospital here. It is learnt that he will be operated upon for his head injuries today. A complaint filed with Pandeshwar police station also alleges that a five sovereign gold bracelet the tempo driver was wearing has gone missing.

The policemen, who registered a case, took into custody two students, Param Paul Bhatia and Ankit Sharma. They were released after interrogation, it is gathered.

Presuming that the tempo driver and his friend teased the girls, does on no account give any one to take the law in one's hands. The guy in the making of a doctor has no right to manhandle the tempo driver. The law must come in to force to stem this misdeed and the culprit, apparently the medic, should be dealt with as per law else episodes of such nature will keep continuing as they do in case of church desecration by outlaws. My experience is such that tempo drivers in Mangalore are at least a step ahead of their colleagues in most other places where integrity is concerned.

It looks like everyone is commenting just to prove their point. I wonder why the driver declined to bring them back? The article says they were drunk but were they abusive, carrying weapons or was there any threat?

The medical students and the tempo driver, both are wrong.
Why the medical students have booked the tempo, the driver should have thought of.
The driver should not have refused to take them only because they are drunk.

At least the female Medical students should have convinc the driver to take them to their destination.
Now these medical students are beating a driver.
After becoming the doctor they will kill the patients.
In this case beating is not a humane act. Convince.

When I used to be small when dogs increased in our town people would be appointed to kill them and we would request them not to kill...so those dogs used to be transferred elsewhere to other towns...even here one has been transferred from New Delhi to Manglore...the biggest problem is its a MAD DOG....!!!

I think drivers some time need these kind of treatment from the passanger. where in most cases auto drivers are in mangalore refusing to take short trips. its a prime resposibility of the cab driver to make thier passengers journey peacefully and successfully. i think it was delebarately created again in mangalore where students enjoy thier life. those people should aware of the human rights. so i was not surprized at all....

Dear John,, the tempo drivers are like private taxi drivers or similar to auto rickshaw drivers, who interact personally many people per day . Quite obviously they are quite smart as they dealing with people on daily basis but they very seldom sit in front of the computer. So who is smart in dealing directly with the people, is it the taxi drivers or those who sit in front of the computer.

We sit in front of the computer because we are qualified to do so.

It is surprising that such an event occurs just two days after the death of Keenan and Reuben occured. Although there the reason might be eve teasing but the culprits who were murdered were drunk and assaulted the victims. In this case we have eduacted youth who are supposed to be doctors of future hurting the driver and his friend. What we can except from such people when they become doctor if they so intolerant. As the whole india talks about the death of Reuben and Keenan it is right time police take strict action and the college should debar the students for their behaviour

Really ? The tempo driver wearing, five sovereign gold bracelet? Then he may not be a driver. Any how, It seems, once in a while tourist drivers especially auto drivers need this kind of treatment. Just to the auto stand exactly opposite Kankanady bar and resturant or fr muller @ kankanady. Even you have patients with you they refuse to go. Why I am saying this bcoz Bfore agreeing for the trip the and pick up from the gold bracelet wearing driver should have thought , no one goes to bar for worship. They are drunk he refused. fine. then why auto drivers refuse even to patients in front of fr muller hospital ?

Here driver and his assistant are not smart. Might be the driver has demanded more money. This is one possiblity.

Driver of the tempo, at midnight wearing five sovereign gold bracelet & has complained that this has gone missing, this seems to be doubftul, Value is almsot above Rs. 80,000/-

If the driver and his helper had found all these medicos are under alchohol, they should have left that place wisely, giving a excuse. Here there had been some unhealthy communication which lead to this brawl.

After all unfortunately in our Country , it is money and power rules not right& justice. This sad fact is real truth.

Most of these assault incidents are caused under the influence of alcohol and drugs where the person loses inhibition and has no control over his actions. This is a similar to Reuben Santos story, thank God they were not armed or the end would have been worse. I wonder in this case too why the onlookers did not come to the drivers rescue?

These students appear to be children of rich parents. It is shocking that the girls too have started to imbibe alcohol heavily. What control they will have on their actions after getting sozzled. Our Mangalore, once a peaceful town, is truly mimicking all the wrong things, so much for the hype!!!!

Gita says, "Protect the good people - Punish the evil".

But, in India the exact opposite is happening.

Kasab is protected by spending crores of rupees.

    Azarudding is made an MP.

Suo-moto action against flat owners who want to protect themselves.

The assaulters released in the present case.

Moral policing by BD and SRS is justified.
