Bantwal, July 24: Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik has raised concerns over the devastating impact of excessive rainfall on numerous homes and agricultural lands in the taluk, significantly affecting livelihoods.

He advocated for declaring Bantwal taluk a 'flood-hit' area and appealed for special grants during the Legislative Assembly session. However, the state minister's decision to reject the declaration for the neighbouring distressed taluk has sparked MLA Rajesh Naik's frustration. He argued that this move has unfairly disadvantaged families grappling with the aftermath of natural disasters.

Under the previous BJP administration, grants of up to Rs 5 lacs were allocated to severely affected households. However, the current Congress government has reduced funding to Rs 1.20 lacs, exacerbating the plight of affected families, according to MLA Rajesh Naik.

The failure to declare the neighbouring distressed taluk has hindered the delivery of much-needed support to affected families in Bantwal. As a result, many households in the taluk are now grappling with the aftermath of natural calamities without adequate recourse, as expressed by MLA Rajesh Naik.
