Delhi Student's Murder Case Transferred to Crime Branch

New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS): The Delhi High court Friday dismissed a plea seeking a CBI probe into the killing of 20-year-old engineering student Shobit Modi in May and transferred the case to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police

"The investigation to be carried out by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police under the direct supervision of the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police," Justice Mukta Gupta said, dismissing the plea of Shobit's father Suraj Modi for a CBI probe.

Shobit, a second-year Information Technology (IT) student of Manav Rachna University in Faridabad, was stabbed to death near his home in Vasant Kunj May 5.

Shobit's father filed a petition to the high court seeking transfer of the case to CBI, alleging that the police were not investigating the case properly.

The Delhi Police opposed this, telling the court it had already examined over 1,100 people in the case.
