Mangalore, Nov 4: Mangaloreans in particular and Indians in general are known for their helping nature. But this unique nature of our people to respond and render a helping hand immediately to those in distress is taking a severe beating these days with more and more incidents exposing the increased insensitivity of people.

If the Mumbai incident of bravehearts losing lives fighting against goondas even when people watched as silent spectators is still fresh in the minds of daijiworld’s readers, the accident that occurred in Mangalore this evening proves that the helping nature of Mangaloreans is on the wane or has vanished for sure.

This accident I am referring to occurred at 6.15 pm this evening near Rao and Rao Circle at State Bank. A man in his 40’s fell under route no 12 bus that plies between State Bank and Polali. His legs were caught in the front tyre of the bus and no sooner people started to gather at the site of the accident. But the driver of the bus was sitting on his seat for nearly 10 minutes as if nothing had happened and even the conductor did not bother to do anything worthwhile.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the accident scene and the man was writhing in pain seeking help but none went to help him out. Chaos and confusion reigned as inquisitive people were trying to know what exactly had happened. But none of those who had gathered or even the bus driver or conductor thought it fit to assist the man and extract his leg from under the bus tyre.

For nearly 10 minutes the main cried in vain until some auto drivers came to his rescue and took him to the hospital. By the time he reached the hospital almost 15 to 20 minutes or even more were lost which are crucial in accident cases.

Here the man in question had injured his legs and would survive the accident if he has not suffered any other injury, despite the delay of 10 minutes. But wasting the crucial 10 minutes in some severe accident cases might prove fatal for the victims.

This incident is a chill reminder to all of us that we are becoming more and more self-centric and insensitive, even forgetting that any of us may be victims of such accidents.

Owner' of the bus you have to observe this because, due to the time keepers timings this is happen. This is not only the case. So please don't keep time keepers in roads keep them in your bus & take care of your people who travel by your bus & walking on the road.

What you can expect ..if one has to answer the several questions of the police and waste years behind the case...!! What you can expect if even the government hospitals take hours to admit a person...!! No doubt humanity word will remain in dictionary in Mangalore soon and not in reality, as so many sene's are thriving for their own benefit..!

How can people be so heartless? We should learn to help others. If you dont help others, how can you expect God to help you? It may so happen that when you require God's help, He might also just look at you as a spectator! Let us live as civilized people. Lend a hand to your fellow brothers and sisters in need.

CHAIN OF SURVIVAL to any injured or sick person is:
1.Early Access(Quickly take them to Hospital)
    2.Give them Advance Medical Care

But in India, this is a system to stay away from those who are fighting for their life and death. This is not new there, people ready to get up at mid-night to read politics and fight on religious issues..etc..

The main problem here is nobody is willing to take any responsible of the injured. They are either scared of police inquiry that takes place aftermath. Peple should realize the importance of life and any delay in aid may cost one's life.Same incident happened in mumabi few days back where 2 people lost thier precious life due to delay by the publicin taking necessary action..

Such insensitivity bu the bystanders is really not acceptable. If I was there, I would have definately helped the person to get to a hospital. The consequences regarding police and court can be delt with later on. At least I can go to sleep with a peaceful mind that I have done my duty towards mankind. Who knows, tomorrow it might be me in a similar situation. Do we want to be left like that begging for help??? Wake up guys, its our duty to help, towards mankind and towards God.

INFACT THEY MADE A BIG PROBLEM FOR THE PEPOLE OF POLALI & NEAR PLACES BY STOPING THE LAST TRIP AT NIGHT SINCE ITS A LAST BUS FOR POLALI
AFTER ONE YEAR NOW THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED BECAUSE BUS HAS BEEN SOLD TO OTHER TRANSPORT COMPANY THEY DO THIS LAST TRIP ONLY FOR THE SAKE OO PEPOLE
SO THIS CLEARA TRAVELS BUS COMPANY IS WORST COMPANY

People who always act on other issues like attacking couples, religious places, and innocent farmers who sell/buy cows must ready to do this act too. Politician can give long speeches and some organization talk they great lovers of the nation. But all these guys are NOT willing a simple Indian what is the use?

When I was occasion I was traveling to go St. Aloysius and stuck on the way an accident. I got down from car and helped the injured with first aid like asked person to breath rapidly, cough every 15 seconds, and helped to shift the injured persons to take him hospital. We must always help who need help.

One suggestion to the education minister, better to teach all students CPR, First Aid, and life saving skills.

i heard that whoever involved in transporting the injured person to the hospital, has to run btwn court n police station as a witness. Eventhough the person who helped is a unknown and first to arrive at the scene. So who wants to bring problems on themselves?

The accident victim has to be shifted to hospital in a right manner .Other wise it will cause more health complications to victim. Those who are undergon such training has to handle the injured one in case of accidents.  such accidents can be effectively dealt by calling the ambulance with paramedics and the ambulance shall reach the accident spot without delay.

This kind of apathy on the part of bystanders is not because they are insensitive to the injured person but I would call it 'being farsighted'. They are clearly able to see what awaits them in the near-future if they, so much lay a finger on the injured person, the grilling by the police accompanied by the torture followed by the legal wrangles.

You know what happened to our youngsters who went to rescue the honour of our churches during the communal attacks? They are regretting the day they were born! So much so for the protection from the law!

That said, the autorickshaw drivers, who are otherwise, always at the receiving end of people's sneer, deserve an applaud. I have noticed, these poor drivers may be poor in material things but definitely are not materialistc and surely, are rich in compassion. I salute them.

We need a "duty to rescue" law. Anyone found of seeing a person and atleast not call up for help or medical aid need to be punished with serving in a hospital...  This should knock some sense into people that it can happen to you!!!

I can imagine how Mangalore people have changed over the years. Most have become selfish and greedy. The venom they extrude in these columns in the name name of religion and politicians exploiting them further says it all. Hope the poor man recovers soon and may God give him strength and his family.

    Anything new ??

As amply said over the years in my comments on Daiji, people are curious to know what is happening (like to be bystanders). They are just there for gossip and nothing else. You never know your fate will be the same one day!!

It always looks in photos that people are jobless and have nothing better to do instead of being productive in nature and minding thier own business when they should be WANTED too.

Same goes when there is an accident/ robbery/ murder where crowds gather. Crucial forensic evidence is lost by this nature. What is the use of "Byhearting books" but do not use thier COMMON SENSE!!

    I Wonder.....

To be honest with you all, general people should not touch such accident victims. They will cause more harm by moving a accident victim holding his four limbs and without a stretcher. We Indians have no clue about trauma care and, unfortunately, doctors top that list !! We are completely deprived of a group of very helpful professionals called Paramedics, who do a wonderful job here in western countries. In India ambulance is used for transporting dead people! what a disgrace.

Every one is aware of what happens to good people, who go out and help. First the clinic, then the police, finally the court, all will be very happy to abuse the person to the core who tried to help. It will take months and years for him recover both financially and mentally. Can a middle class person with a fly can afford that? The answer is no. Yes, it looks cruel, but we have a system in plance to make ourself insensitive.

Heartbreaking scene and very very unfortunate to know that when in need the help badly, people just remained unmoved.I think SC recently gave green signal to such accident/incident victims could be admitted with out taking prior permission from the police.(with out police report hospital usually slow in admitting the injured)Human values no a days fading away due to gap between communities especially in Mangalore and around concerned.
