Mangaluru: Roof of DC office leaking, inconvenience for visitors

Mangaluru, Jul 27: Thousands of people visit the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office in the city every day. During the monsoon, the office roof leaks, forcing people to use umbrellas indoors to avoid getting wet.

The DC office building complex, built in 1994 under the then chief minister Veerappa Moily, looks strong from the outside. However, the third-floor roof leaks, allowing rainwater to fall directly into some rooms. Officials warn that important files may be damaged.

The construction of the new DC office at Padil is progressing slowly, and water stagnates in the yard. Cement pieces also fall on the public. According to Yashodha Kotian of Mangaluru, special art decorations in the office are also getting spoiled by the rainwater.

Raghuveer, a recent visitor to the DC office, said, “People come to the DC office to resolve various issues. The DC also holds long meetings and discussions, requiring the public to wait. During the monsoon, rainwater falls directly on the heads and bodies of those visiting the office. At least during the monsoon, some repair work should be done to avoid inconvenience to the public.”

Not an inconvenience really to speak of. It's an insult and embarrassment. One has the indignity of having to smell the stench of urine while waiting for the elevator. If successive DCs can't even solve this matter, what are they capable of ? Such an unacceptable state of affairs.

"People come to the DC office to resolve various issues". DC needs to resolve DC office issue first, if he is not able to resolve his office issues...how can he resolve people's issues.
