Lucknow, Nov 5: A high-ranking police police officer in the state who had threatened to expose corruption was forcibly taken from his office and sent to a mental hospital on Friday November 4, sources said.

DIG Devendra Dutt Mishra of the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Department had claimed massive misappropriation of funds in the purchase of fire services equipment and had threatened to expose relevant files as evidence.

He had said that corruption was rampant in the state government departments, adding that senior bureaucrats were also involved. "Top officers demanded cut and commission on the purchases made by the fire services department recently," he alleged.

Mishra told reporters that he was a supporter of Anna’s campaign against corruption, and added that he would follow the Gandhian ways despite knowing he would be punished for speaking against corruption.

"Every one in the state government knows that I am an upright police officer and would not budge to the undue orders of the senior officers". He also expressed fears that a consipiracy may be plotted to malign his name.

While Mishra was sent to mental hospital, the Mayawati-led government also ordered an enquiry into his claims.

If what he claims is true, Mishra should have approached the senior officers and not the media, said a spokesperson of the state government.

UP police said they had no formal complaint from Mishra, except against two constables who had claimed eligibility for gallantry awards by fradulent means.

Mishra is due to retire in two years.

Wow! Indians have invented an easy solution to hide their corruption. A honest man nearing retirement couldn't tolerate the misappropriation of funds inspired by Anna's anti corruption movement took action only to end up in a mental institute! Is there any place for honest people now a days?
I think he did the right thing by going to the media. I hope he would be out soon!
What's happening here? I also read the story about Jaycee Queen who was labelled mentally ill. Indians have created their own diagnostic label for normal people who swim against the social current- mentally ill! I have to say wow! How convenient! Yeh, send them all to mental institute so that corrupt and greedy may enjoy at the cost of helpless house wives, old men nearing retirement, and elderly.
