Moodbidri, Jul 28: Ramesh Anchan (65), a resident of Puttige Padavu Handelu and a longtime seller of snacks and cold drinks at the weekly market in Moodbidri, was killed when his bicycle was struck by a car near Handelu mosque on Friday evening.

Anchan was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries, according to police sources.

After the weekly market was relocated to Swaraj grounds, Anchan worked as a pump operator for the Puttige panchayat. He had undertaken the Shabarimala pilgrimage 18 times and earned the title of Guruswamy, guiding other pilgrims on their journey to Shabarimala.

Anchan is survived by his wife and three daughters.
