Udupi, Nov 6: Of late, the Athrady-Parkala, Hiriyadka-Someshwara stretches of state highway have become a matter of concern for many motorists.

Hundreds of vehicles ply on this route every day, forced to put up with the large, crater-like potholes that pockmark the road, making commuting a nightmare of an experience.

Passengers commuting between Karkala and Udupi have been depending on Athrady-Parkala route. Also, to go to Hebri, Teerthahalli, Shimoga, the most used route is Athrady-Parkala, Hiriyadka-Someshwara.

What is even more worrying is the fact that ambulances fetch patients from Shimoga and Chikmaglur districts to hospitals in Manipal via this route, which may at times prove fatal if the patient were in a critical condition. Not only is the journey time-consuming because of the potholes, but also stressful and jerky for the same reason.

The bus owners too have suffered loss due to the poor condition of the road, as spare parts of buses involve high costs. As rains are on recession now, road repair works should be taken up at the earliest, say locals and commuters.

It will be greatly appreciated that, during construction of road proper supervision to comply with standards and practices of engineering as per prevailing general design conditions of udupi district. It is well understood that, technically and commercially qualified contractors be chosen for the proposed revovation work.

Many Thanks for Bringing the Painful Situation of the Road in this Stretch.
    Whom to Blame ?
As we the Residents take it easily..no Revolts? So the Municipal is also has let it go the way it is..
Would like to Mention here..not long..the Ex Muncipal Councler was from Parkala....even then the Roads....
I had heard they were to make a Alternative road to Airport via Hirebettu...
With this Roads we can build Road to Hell....
I am sure if MLA , MP's are taken a Ride daily on this Road , they would relaize the gravity/Impact of those who travel daily on this Road...
Wake Up Raghupati Bhat...& all Muncipal Representatives.....
Iam sure if Election r in card..there would be a Eye wash to these roads....

    Harsh Malhotra, Mangalore/New Delhi,

Agree with your assesment...not only standing cows....politicians too standing and doing nothing....look at Dr Oscarji since Jan 1980, Dr Moilyji since March 1972 standing like holy cow in assemblies and Parliment...Only talking...doing nothing.

This will continue for next 20 more years for sure......

And funniest part is they come to Mangalore and Udupi show all of their teeth, take pictures with their spouses(Like fashion period) and smart people of Coastal Karnataka will not ask them what did you do for this part of india in your life time???

In each and every bus stop you will find 4-5 cows standing which are there twenty years back...today also there..will remain after twenty years....only changes occured of added more of 'gadangs'...from late satischandra hegde!!
