Udupi: Thousands of Spectators Relish ‘Kesaru Gadde Sports’ at Shirva

Udupi, Nov 7: For the first time ever in the history of Shirva, ‘Kesaru Gadde Sports’ Competition was organized by Lions Club Shirva on Monday November 7. A procession was undertaken from Shirva bus stand to Nyarma Hosamane field, the place where the sports competition was held.

The inaugural function commenced at 10.00am with a prayer song rendered by Rolisha, Karen and Iona. Ln Melwyn Aranha welcomed the gathering.

As many as 2,500 people gathered to enjoy the Kesaru Gadde Sports contest.

Ln Suresh Prabhu PMJF, district PRO and Sangama convener was the chief guest and Ln  Dr Madhusudhan Hegde, MJF, first vice district governor inaugurated the event by opening the pingara from the rice pot which was followed by buffalo race.

 













































 

Special guests Katapadi Shanker Poojary, president, Udupi district Pachanayth, Ln Devdas Hebbar MJF, president, Udupi Taluk Panchayath Convenor, Family Membership I and III,  Vanitha Shenoy, president, Shirva Grama Panchayath, Ln Shridhar Shenava, co-ordinator, district governor’s programme, David D’souza, Prince Point, Shirva, Ln. Suhas Hegde MJF, Region Chairperson – Region III, Ln. K. Sathyashanker Shetty, Zone Chair Person – Zone-I, Ln. Chandrahas Suvarna, DC Agriculture and Rural Development were present.

Ln Melwyn Aranha was feliciatated by the chief guest for organizing the entire event. Ln. Norbert Machado was the host of the programme. Ln. Ronald Menezes, president proposed the vote of thanks.

Many sports and games were organized to entertain of the gathered people. Tug or war, volley ball, throw ball, bomb in the city, running race and Kandod Bajjai Naaduni games were held. Karavali spl(coastal special) food was served for lunch - Ganji, Chatni  and Uppad.

Games were continued after the lunch. Tug of war was the centre of attraction. Around 5.30pm closing ceremony was organized followed by the prize distribution. Ln. Lawrence D’souza, district co-ordinator LCIF presided over the function and prizes were distributed by Ln. H N Shivakumar, second vice district governor. Ln Wilson D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. He acknowledged all those who extended support to make the event a grand success.

    Very good initiative by Lions Club shirva. Such sports events are always fabulous and encourage for living in harmony. It’s nice to see many known faces of shirva. Hope this inspires many other organizations to conduct such similar sport events in the area. Jai ho shirva-manchakal…………….Ice candy picture is very nice (reminds me of Babnna and ajjerna ice candy o/s St Marys campus)

    Very Good initiative taken by Lion Club Shirva by organizing Kesaru Gadde Sports at Shirva. Look at the spirit showing on the faces of people. All look very happy like children. Very nice coverage by Arul,Wilson and Grynal. Congratulations Lions Club.Great Work. We missed it.

    A very good event organized by the Organizers which attracted more than 2500 people. This is the need of the hour in order to have communal harmony. Forget the political and other issues and come and support these kind of events. Long live communcal harmony.
