Bantwal, Aug 1: In the early hours of Thursday, August 1, the sudden rising of water levels in the Phalguni River caused flooding in the Ammunje Somanatheshwara Temple area and inundated the houses belonging to about eight families in the Kadapu Kari locality along the riverbank. As soon as the news broke, Bantwal tahsildar Archana Bhat rushed to the scene and directed the safe relocation of all affected families.

Bantwal taluk administration and fire department personnel carried out swift rescue operations, although the river's debris posed some challenges.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days, the Phalguni River was already swollen, and the downpour last night caused a sudden rise in the water level, leading to the flooding. Fire department boats were employed in the rescue efforts.

As there were Mescom electric wires in the area, power was cut before commencing the rescue operations. All affected families were provided shelter at the Polali Sarvamangala Hall, according to tahsildar Archana Bhat.

The tahsildar remained at the site to oversee the operations. Gram panchayat vice president Radhakrishna Tantri, Kariyangala panchayat president Radha, members Karthik Ballal, Chandrahase Pallipady, Bhagirati, Ravindra Suvarna, Lakmeesh Shetty, Lokesh Bharani, revenue inspector Vijay, PDOs Malini and Nayana, and key figures Venkatesh Navad and Yashavant Polali were among those involved in the rescue efforts.
