Mangalore: DC Directs Citizens to Use Machines for Septic Tank Cleaning

Mangalore, Nov 9: After an incident where a labourer, later identified as Kitta Koraga (45) of Ullanje, slipped and drowned in the septic tank of a hotel located on the main road in Kinnigoli recently, the DC has directed the public that when cleaning septic tanks they should use the suction machine available at the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC).
“Making people do this work is against Prohibition of Manual Scavenging Act - 1993, and the violators of this rule will be arrested on criminal charges,” he said.
Police commissioner, DC, and ZP CEO did spot inspection and the violator involved in Sunday’s incident has been arrested. A release from the DC’s office stated that the district administration will provide compensation.
The DC has requested the public to borrow specific machines when cleaning their septic tank from authorities such as MCC, city municipality, town municipality, and gram panchayat.
