Bellary: Sriramulu Quits BJP, to Fight Bypoll as Independent Candidate
Daijiworld Media Network – Bellary (SP)
Bellary, Nov 9: After days of dilly-dallying, former minister, B Sriramulu, declared his decision to fight the coming bypoll from Bellary Rural constituency as an independent candidate. He said he has decided to part ways with the BJP, as his self respect has been adversely affected. Sriramulu was addressing a press conference held at the residence of former state minister, Janardhan Reddy, here on Wednesday November 8.
Sriramulu said that he had arrived at this decision after consulting close ones and supporters, as well as Janardhan Reddy. “My conscience does not permit me to compromise on principles. I have been in politics for the last 25 years. I have traveled all over the state in an effort to bring BJP to power. My work was well-appreciated everywhere. I have resigned from the BJP, having been hurt by the efforts to malign me. I had not resigned to pressurize the party to give me ministerial berth. My commitment to the welfare of the people is as strong as ever. I have always relied on the principles of mutual respect, love and affection. I strongly believe in God of justice, and voters are my second God,” he said.
While expressing his confidence that the workers and people of the constituency are with him, he said he will take the decision the people may take about him, in all humility.
He said he is feeling distraught at the absence of his close friend and confidante, Janardhan Reddy, with him at this juncture, but expressed faith of coming out victorious with a large margin. He also expressed his gratitude to former Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa. Sriramulu said people from all communities and walks of life have expressed their solidarity with him.
Bellary MLA, Somashekhar Reddy, Raichur MP, Sanna Fakirappa, Kampli MLA, Suresh Babu, Sriramulu’s sister and MP, J Shantha, and others were present with him at the press conference. Somashekhar Reddy has requested the BJP not to field its candidate for the election from Bellary Rural constituency opposite Sriramulu.
