Mangaluru, Aug 6: The Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) held its 56th Konkani elocution competition for children and adults on Sunday, August 4, as part of its annual events at Don Bosco Hall.
The event began with a prayer and the KNS anthem. Floyd D'Mello, the general secretary of KNS, welcomed the judges, participants, and audience.
The competition was inaugurated with a lamp lighting ceremony. Liston Derrick D’Souza, vice president of KNS, delivered an encouraging message to the competitors and wished them success. Floyd D'Mello, Gerald Concessao (treasurer of KNS), Joseph Theodore, and Shahila D'Almeida (competition convenors), along with Liston D’Souza and the competition judges, were present on the dais.
Renowned Konkani poets Fr Jossy Sidakatte, Marcel D'Souza (Machcha Milar), and Roshan Sequeira (Roshu Bajpe) served as the esteemed judges for the competition.
A total of 72 participants from seven different categories showcased their talents in this year's elocution competition.
The event received valuable support from KNS Angelore unit, Cathedral unit, and Cascia unit members, as well as assistance from the KNS managing committee members.
Former KNS vice-president Sunil Menezes managed the computation of scores.
Joseph Theodore compered the programme, announced the results, and concluded with a vote of thanks.

5 to 10 years category (girls):
- First Place: Angel Megan Cutinha, Hospet
- Second Place: Nishal Pearl Monteiro, Bondel
- Third Place: Ashel Kezia D’Souza, Ranipura
5 to 10 years category (boys):
- First Place: Shane Princeton, Permannur
- Second Place: Aurik Rego, Cordel
- Third Place: Ranson Sion D’Costa, Angelore
10 to 16 years category (girls):
- First Place: Sweedal Pereira, Kemmannu
- Second Place: Gleyona Mendonca, Ashoknagar
- Third Place: Chelsia Pearl Castelino, Derebail
10 to 16 years category (boys):
- First Place: Denith Rodrigues, Bondel
- Second Place: Joyson Aloysius D’Souza, Kulur
- Third Place: Ujwal Gonsalves, Kemmannu
16 to 35 years category (women):
- First Place: Bianca Viola Saldanha, Bondel
- Second Place: Grishma Melisha Saldanha, Neermarga
- Third Place: Alrisha Veloni Rodrigues, Gurpur
16 to 35 years category (men):
- First Place: Winston Preeth Fernandes, Shirva
