Varsha of Ryan School Wins Doodle4Google Contest, M'lore Boys Lose Out

New Delhi/Mangalore, Nov 10: Varsha Gupta, a third standard student of Ryan International School in Greater Noida, raced past 1,55,000-plus other contestants to win the popular Doodle4Google India contest.
The winner was judged based on criteria like creativity, artistic quality and expression of the theme ‘India’s gift to the world’.
Varsha's Google logo, or 'doodle' as it is called, shows India's classical music instruments that are drawn in a manner to depict each letter of 'Google'.

Mangalore's Shubham Vernekar was a national finalist in the contest. It may be recalled that earlier this week, Shubham also won Daijiworld Weekly Drawing Contest. Two other Mangaloreans, Vaibhav Shenoy and Varun Holla were also in the race.
The Global Doodle team and Jennifer Hom, creative force behind Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary doodle, chose the winning entry out of 45 finalists.
Rajan Anandan, managing director and VP (sales and operations) for Google India, presented Varsha with the winning certificate at an event in Delhi. She also won a package comprising a laptop, a year’s Internet connection and a Rs 2-lac technology grant for her school.
"I am delighted to see the enthusiasm that the youngsters have put in to showcase their creativity. We hope this gets bigger each year," Anandan said.
Varsha's winning doodle will be featured on the Google India homepage all day on Children's Day.
"India is a land of different cultures. In India, music plays a very important role. India has given many musical instruments to the world..." Varsha wrote about her doodle.
Out of the 1,55,000 entries, as many as 6,000 doodles were shortlisted for the quarter-finals, and 600 for the semis. A panel of judges then picked the 45 finalists.
Though Mangalore boys are highly talented, the voting system did not help them in winning the contest, it is learnt. Due to lack of good online publicity, they missed the opportunity. Reportedly, the boys have secured less votes, a source close to Google told daijiworld.
