UN Chief to Attend Climate Change Meet in Dhaka

Dhaka, Nov 13 (IANS): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will attend an international conference on climate change and meet the family members of deceased UN peacekeepers during a three-day visit to Bangladesh that begins Sunday.

Ban will visit the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training, dedicated to the training of UN peacekeepers, the Daily Star reported.

He will go to a community clinic in Moulvibazar, where community health workers are being trained in a government-led effort to increase the number of skilled birth attendants, said a statement from the UN office in Dhaka.

Ban will Monday address the Climate Vulnerable Forum Ministerial Meeting.

Ministers and representatives of 30 countries vulnerable to climate change will gather in Dhaka for the two-day meet that aims to pursue green development, said foreign ministry officials.

The UN chief will also receive an honorary degree from the Dhaka University.
