Core Team to Include Members with Clean Background: Hazare

Ralegan Siddhi (Maharashtra), Nov 13 (IANS): Announcing that his core team will be revamped, Anna Hazare Sunday said the committee will be expanded to 50 but would only include members with a "clean background".

"The core team will be revamped and shall have 50 members from all walks of life," he told reporters here after a meeting of the core team.

Hazare said a code of conduct will be framed for the new core committee and a background check conducted before any new members are inducted. Also the activities of the new members will be strictly monitored after their inclusion.

Meanwhile, the anti-corruption activist demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be made an independent body, saying that it is necessary that the agency is free of government control.

He also said that he will work towards empowering and strengthening of Gram Sabhas which is also his aim alongside a corruption-free nation.

Reiterating that he was not anti-Congress, Hazare said his team will support the ruling party if they bring in the Jan Lokpal Bill. He, however, criticised the party-led United Progressive Alliance government for trying to weaken the Lokpal Bill by proposing to introduce five different bills aimed at tackling corruption.

Asked about Swami Agnivesh, who has expressed his desire to apologise to him and rejoin the team, Hazare said the decision over the matter will be taken later.

Hazare had said Saturday that there is no harm in talking to Agnivesh and that he will think about it.

Agnivesh had expressed a desire to apologise to Hazare on reality television show Bigg Boss 5 and said that he would visit Hazare at his native village after he made an exit from the show.

He was estranged from Team Hazare after a video posted on YouTube exposed him as having passed comments about the activists against corruption led by Hazare.

    How "clean" is clean? That is my question. Remember, honesty has it limits.

    For example if one would accidentally ten rupees, there will be many who will point it out and some may even pick it up for you. But if you a bundle of bank notes, there will be lesser people to tell you about it. Now, if you loose a bag full of money, very few people who would even make an attempt to return the same.

    Though Annaji has good intentions, corruption will eventually erode what he is doing, since corruption is a two way street. There is a giver and a willing receiver, which had made the system itself corrupt.

    To stamp out corruption we need fair laws and do away with exploitation, unemployment and mass underemployment it is impossible to do away with corruption. Over 50% of people in are underemployed, which means that they do not earn enough to make ends meet, so when given a chance they will cheat. The same with taxes, duties and levies, how many people pay their fair share, especially the business community? There are 101 reasons for a near collapse of the present system and black money has become a parallel economy that is equal to or larger than the white money.

    Unless we fix all of the above and an overwhelming majority of Indians become law abiding, and those who are corrupt exposed, punished and removed from office we will never be able to fix the problem

    Anna Hajare will be very soon disappointed. How new good people can adjust the old bad peoples? What happened to those 3 crore rupees Kejriwal took and deposited in his trust account? The new members will for collection of funds and old people will sit on that, is it not?
