Break Your Silence over Corruption: Kalraj to Sonia, Rahul

Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 14 (IANS): Questioning the "silence" Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi over various scams during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalraj Mishra Monday sought to know the measures taken by the government to deal with corruption.

"The country wants to know the reason for their silence over the scams taking place in their government. They should immediately break their silence and tell the public if any steps were taken to fight corruption," Mishra said at a press conference in this Uttar Pradesh town, some 80 km from Lucknow.

Mishra reached Sitapur while leading one of the two Jan Swabhiman Yatras of BJP. The other is being headed by former BJP president Rajnath Singh.

Accusing Congress-led UPA of adopting a lackadaisical approach for containing corruption and even cracking down on campaigns against it, Mishra said: "The midnight crackdown on Baba Ramdev and his supporters during an anti-graft campaign a few months ago, clearly reflects the government wants to suppress voices being raised against corruption."

"Any individual standing up against corruption is being branded as a RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) activist by Congress…The government is trying every means to cover up its corruption related cases... It appears the government lacks the will required to fight corruption," alleged Mishra.

He also attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for falsely projecting herself as an opponent of Congress party.

"If she is really concerned over the wrong economic policies of Congress-led central government, why she continues to support Congress at the centre from outside? It only reflects the tacit understanding between the BSP and Congress," said Mishra.

The Jan Swabhiman Yatra will conclude in Ayodhya Nov 17 in a "Vijay Sankalp Samagam" that would also be attended by BJP president Nitin Gadkari.
