Mangalore: Attempt on Auto Driver's Life - Police Gather Leads

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 15: Relating to the murder attempt on Ravindra from Gurpur, also known as Ravi Salian, an auto rickshaw driver and activist of Bajrang Dal, the police reportedly have collected important clues. They have rounded up a number of persons, and begun questioning them about their possible involvement with this case.

It may be recalled that miscreants who had arrived in a Maruti Omni van, had intercepted Ravindra’s auto rickshaw at Kandavar Padavu on Sunday afternoon. They had fled after attacking him with lethal weapons. Apparently, they would have finished him off before fleeing, but for the appearance of some vehicles on the road at that time. The vehicle used by the attackers was later found abandoned at Farangipet. Ravindra in the meantime, is recovering in a private hospital in the city, and the doctors have applied stitches on his wounds, the police revealed.

police and personnel of other security contingents have been posted at Gurpur Kaikamba, Gurpur town, Bajpe etc to oversee law and order situation.

The needle of suspicion of the police, it is said, points towards a person who was accused in the murder of Hindu outfit leader, Sukhananda Shetty, a few years ago. The police, besides keeping vigil on the movement of suspected persons, have also taken up steps to summon all the persons finding their names in the rowdy sheets maintained in different police stations. Commissioner of police, Seemant Kumar Singh, has instructed the police stations to get bonds executed by these rowdies.  Sources also said that a plan to parade the rowdies is also has been envisaged.

Lydia Lobo, Kadri you dont have to to live in fear or worry about our country becoming like Afghan, Iran, Iraq etc. You are really lucky that you are staying in a country like india where minorities also have equal rights to live in like majority. Also dont act like living in fear as the BJP govt is ruling our state. Regarding Nilesh's comments i doubt if the people question him are really from BD, because they can be local goondas who are doing wrong things in the name of BD. They know that if something goes wrong in mangalore the blame will go to BD first. When such things takes place the media channels and people like you are waiting for an opportunity to blame BD.

    Sujit, Polali,

Who has objected to the action of police ? We commend them for their speed in taking the action against this particular case and wished that they applied same technique in solving cases related to church attacks ! Isn't it a human instinct to expect equal treatment in a democratic country ?

    Jatin,

Frustration will prove more on 23rd November when people of your likeliness will assemble on Nehru Maidan ! Just hear the speeches of your spiritual leaders from the dais and perceive who is more frustrated !

    Ramesh Poojary,

Please read Nilesh' comment you will know who divides the people. A reaction takes place against a preceding action. If the peaceful Christian community was not attacked, people praying in the prayer halls were not hit, women socializing in a club were not abused, there would have been no need of this bill. We don't view our neighbours as a Muslim, Hindu or a Christian but inform them about our hardships and ask for help in emergencies. It is supposed to remain so, not as the RSS/BD/SNS demand. Under present moral policing, if a woman has to travel with a man, she must have a Mangal-sutra in her neck ! If there isn't one, they will force the man to put one on her ! You tell me - how many got punished ? Instead, cases are booked on protesting public members which are still not cleared.

How different our lives would be from the women living in Saudi Arabia, Iran or Afghanistan ? Would you have written same comment if you had undergone what Nilesh did ?

This is really a sad incident and we pray for his speedy recovery. Nobody supports violence and we all want to live in peace. One thing is noteworthy in this case. The Karnataka Police force has acted very swiftly and efficiently as BD activist is involved. When a minority person or place of worship is attacked they become totally insensitive, indifferent, inactive and clueless.

UPA is deviding the people by bringing Communal voilence Bill 2011. Whenever violence happens culprit needs to be punished. Legal process should be completed within a particular time frame. Change the legal process and fix the issues related to time frame. Dont bring new bill and devide the people further. No special treatment needed for any community whenever communal violenece happens. Its a trick by Congress to safeguard its vote bank. Indai is suffering from vote bank poliitcs. Dear friends, dont be part of vote bank. Be a decissio maker (voter) and participate in the development of the country. Dont be voter from the vote bank.

Wonderful job by DK Police. Very efficient. But, when it comes to minority, their efficiency goes to their a. Shall we praise their efficiency or curse them for their double standard ? Betrayers of their oath and insult to the emblems they put on.

    Roshan & Jessy,

Good that you observed the step-motherly treatment and that is why a bill is proposed to protect minority community. But the perpetrators of communal attacks are opposed to it, have arranged a protest. You may have missed on the following article of DW as it came up on a holiday.

DW, I request you to bring this issue with further developments about it to the fore through a main article as the previous one just sank.

During church attacks Police force was totally actionless.(Of course, under orders from BJP Home Ministry) On the contrary they attacked the innocent catholic youth who were protesting. Now look at them, they are extra efficient because the victim is a BD activist. This is called politics, I mean hypocricy.

Splendid Job by DK Police, they are quickly able to gather leads on this particular attack. May the person involved is close to party ruling the state.  But what about those attacks on places of worships, attacks on hotels run by minorities, why they are not able to gather clues? Only almighty knows answer to these questions
