Chidambaram Reviews Chhattisgarh's Anti-Maoist Strategy

Raipur, Nov 15 (IANS): Home Minister P. Chidambaram Tuesday began a high-level meeting here to review the anti-Maoist strategy in Chhattisgarh, one of the states worst-hit by insurgency since the late 1980s.

Chief Minister Raman Singh and top officials of the home department and police headquarters are attending the meet where Chidambaram will comprehensively review the strategy to combat the Maoist insurgency.

Top officials sources say Chidambaram will mainly discuss issues on how to step up development work in Maoist strongholds, mainly in the state's southern Bastar tip and also how to stop rebels from spreading to new jungle areas of the state.

The home minister is also likely to discuss intensifying a joint combing operation by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra on their border to put a check on the rebels in Rajnandgaon district and Gadchiroli located in the two states respectively.
