Was CAG's 2G Scam Loss Inflated, Asks Digvijay

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS): Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Tuesday wondered if the figures in the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report on the 2G scam were inflated and asked if the CAG had an "agenda" behind the report.

Reacting after a letter from CAG official, R.B. Sinha, alleged that calls were made to CAG by Public Accounts Committee chief Murli Manohar Joshi as the report was being prepared, Digvijay Singh tweeted: "Is it a fact Chairman PAC contacted CAG regarding 2G before submission of CAG report? It was denied by CAG but now documents prove he did."

In his post on microblogging site Twitter, the Congress leader also alleged links between CAG Vinod Rai and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to which Joshi belongs.

"Does CAG have an agenda? Does he want to follow the footsteps of T.N. Chaturvedi, ex-CAG, of Bofors Report, BJP MP and Governor?" he asked.

Chaturvedi was the CAG under whom the report on Bofors scam came.

"Now RP Singh has stated he was forced to sign final report. He pegged losses at 2,645 Cr (crore) not 1.76 lakh Cr. Why is CAG doing this?" Digvijay tweeted.

He was referring to R.P. Singh, one of the key auditors in the 2G case, who told the multi-party parliamentary probe panel that the loss suffered in the sale of scarce radiowave spectrum was only Rs.2,645 crore and the figure of 1.76 lakh crore loss was only a mathematical guess.

Digvijay Singh also said that BJP was to be blamed for the 2G not being auctioned.

"1G auctioned by Congress Govt. 2G not auctioned by NDA Govt. 3G and 4G auctioned by UPA. Still NDA is honest and UPA dishonest ! Ridiculous!"
