Udupi: Thousands witness traditional 'Vittalpindi' celebrations at Sri Krishna Math

Udupi, Aug 27: The grand celebrations of Sri Krishna Janmashtami concluded with the "Krishna Leelotsava" (Vittalpindi), witnessed by a sea of devotees at the Sri Krishna Math in Udupi on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

A large number of devotees participated in the traditional Vittalpindi celebrations. A beautifully crafted clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken out in a golden chariot after performing pooja to the idol.

The procession began at 3:15 pm in front of the temple and was accompanied by Chande, bhajan singing, Huli Vesha performances, and the participation of various tableaux.

The breaking of Mosaru Kudike, pots filled with curd, milk, and colors, was particularly eye-catching. A troupe dressed as Gollas broke the earthen pots tied to poles installed around the Car Street.

The event was graced by Paryaya Puttige seer, Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math, along with junior seer Sri Sri Sushreendra Theertha Swamiji and Sri Sri Vidyesha Theertha of Bhandarakeri Math.

Maha Annasantarpane, the grand feast, was held on the festive day for thousands of devotees at various locations around the Math. Thousands of devotees savored the Anna prasadam on this occasion.

A clay idol of Lord Sri Krishna was taken around in a procession on a golden chariot around Car Street, after which the idol was immersed in the Madhwa Sarovara, marking the end of the two-day Sri Krishna Janmashtami festivities.

The city of Udupi was filled with various tiger dance troupes and other tableau performances. The monster tableaux and other characters inspired by Hollywood entertained the public. Thousands of participants joined in the tiger dance battle organized by Shiroor Math.
