Bantwal, Aug 27: A retaining wall of the Vittla police station quarters collapsed into the yard of a nearby house at Ponnotu in Vittla, following heavy rainfall since Monday night.

The retaining wall and a hill located behind the police station quarters, where the police personnel reside, collapsed suddenly onto the house of Ayesha Ponnotu, who lives next door. This caused damage to her house. There are concerns that the upper section of the hill might also collapse.

Vehicles are parked in the premises of the police quarters, and there is a possibility that these could also fall onto the house. Ayesha had previously submitted a complaint regarding this issue to the town panchayat, but the locals have reported that no action has been taken yet.
