Mangalore: Suspicious Movement of Boats - Nine Taken into Custody

Mangalore, Nov 17: Police personnel of Coastal Security Force have been conducting inspection of certain fishing boats moving about in the Arabian Sea at Ullal, Kotepura and Kudroli areas since the last few days. They undertook this operation after the fishermen brought to their notices that the movements of some fishing boats in the area appear to be suspicious. 

It is learnt that the fishermen who routinely conduct fishing in the area observed movement of some boats which they had not seen in the past, with fishermen, who appeared like strangers to the region. The fishermen got doubt that these boats were indulging in fishing illegally. 

The police took nine boats into custody and interrogated them. The police said that the people found in these boats are of Tamil Nadu origin, and that they have been handed over to the Coast Guard officials for further inquiry. 

In the case of another big boat and two smaller boats, the fishermen complained to the fisheries department about the fact that these boats bore irregular registration numbers. After the officials of fisheries department and police of Coastal Security Police held discussions, it was decided to register a written complaint with the Coast Guard.
