Hizbul Guerrilla Killed in Kashmir Gunfight


Srinagar, Nov 17 (IANS): A Hizbul Mujahideen separatist guerrilla was killed Thursday in a gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir's Shopian district, police said here.

Security forces early morning surrounded a house in Shalidoora (Keller) village of Shopian district, 55 km from this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital, after information about the presence of militants there.

"When the holed up militants were challenged, they started firing at the troops. One local militant belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen was killed," a police officer told IANS.

"Searches are going on. No security force personnel was injured nor any collateral damage caused to civilian life and property in the area," he added.
