Uttar Pradesh Govt Transfers 'Mentally Unstable' Senior Cop

Lucknow, Nov 19 (IANS): Exactly two weeks after he was declared "mentally unstable" when he openly lambasted the state government for alleged corruption, the Uttar Pradesh government Friday transferred deputy inspector general of police (DIG) D.D. Misra to the state Anti-Corruption Bureau.

An order to this effect was issued by the state home department late Friday evening.

Interestingly, the inquiry earlier ordered by the state government against Misra had been entrusted to the Anti-Corruption Bureau chief, additional director general of police Atul.

Posted as DIG in the state Fire Services, Misra had openly blasted the Mayawati government for "indulging in the biggest scams". He had even gone to the extent of levelling serious charges of corruption against the state government even on certain official files.

His incoherent behaviour, however, led the government to declare him as "mentally unstable", following which he was admitted to the psychiatry department of the Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University here. After a week's stay in the department's trauma centre, he was sent home.

Top officials declined to state whether Misra had recovered from his "mental illness" or not.
