Kasargod, Sep 9: The search for a missing fisherman has ended tragically. The mortal remains of Muhammed Riyaz (37), a resident of Chemnad, was found on the coastal shore at Azhikkode near Thrissur on Monday, September 9, in the afternoon, ten days after he went missing.
Riyaz had gone fishing at 5:30 am on August 31 from the Kiyoor Aaliwe Pagilu area. When he did not return by 9 am, his family tried calling his mobile phone but received no response. Meanwhile, his scooter and a bag containing fishing gear were discovered at the fishing site.
Following the report, police, fire and rescue teams, coastal police, fisheries department, and local fishermen conducted extensive search operations. Despite several hours of search efforts by expert diver Eshwar Malpe and two days of searches by naval personnel, Riyaz could not be found.
On Monday afternoon, Riyaz’s decomposed body was discovered on the coastal shore at Azhikkode. Identification was confirmed through a mobile SIM card found in his pant's pocket and his jacket.
The body has been placed in the mortuary at Kodangallur Government Hospital, and the family has identified it. The body will be shifted to Chemnad after the post-mortem examination, according to family sources.
