Bantwal, Nov 20:
The 17th DK District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Alike Shree Sathya Sai Hall came to a grand close on Saturday November 19.

Speaking on the occasion, senior littérateur Vasanth Kustagi said that the schools which loot people by way of donations should be closed. "Such schools are the grass root of corruption. If the people of Karnataka, with Kannada as their mother tongue, are good at it, they will be able to learn English without any difficulty," he said.

"Also, due to difference of Kannada used in different parts the state, there arises a need for a ‘regional dictionary’ and the district Sahitya Parishat should take responsibility for commencement of this project," he suggested.

As many as 11 resolutions including not closing Kannada medium schools, opposition to the river diversion project, and compulsory Kannada name boards, were passed on the occasion. Other resolutions urged the government to introduce two separate day and night trains between Mangalore central and Bangalore, not to extend SEZ and harm nature and agriculture activities, opposition to step motherly treatment by the state and central governments to rural places with regard to drinking water projects, power supply, and roads, repair of roads under the CM’s special grant,  a cable car system between Gundya-Subramanya in order to help tourist enjoy nature, to make arrangements for storage of waters of 14 west flowing rivers of DK district, and also to form small projects for the benefit of the region, and to make arrangements for easy access of Kannada literature on the web without any cost.

Convention president Dr Thalthaje Vasanth Kumar, in his address, said that Kannada Sahitya Parishat president should make sure that all the resolutions passed in this two-day convention will be implemented through follow-up action.

Shree Kshetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade presided over the valedictory ceremony. He said that literature teaches children about culture. “Many literary works have changed the thoughts of people and caused social enlightenment,” he said.

Padekallu Narasinha Bhat, Manila Shree Mohandas Swami, deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, ZP president Shailaja Bhat, Abdul Khader, Dr Yashovarma, and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura were present. Kumari Pallavi Prabhu sang the prayer song.
