Udupi, Sep 10: Residents along Bailoor Road near the Mahishamardini Temple are voicing their frustration as a long-awaited road-widening project remains incomplete. The project, which began several years ago, is now only partially finished, leaving a significant portion of the road in disrepair.

The road widening project, initiated during former MLA Raghupathi Bhat’s tenure, has seen some progress, with the Public Works Department (PWD) completing the concreting. However, the stretch managed by the City Municipality Council (CMC) remains unattended due to delays.

According to local residents, the delay is due to insufficient funding. An official stated that the contract for the remaining roadwork has expired, necessitating a new tender from the CMC before work on the remaining stretch can proceed. This new tendering process is expected to take some time, meaning residents will continue to face inconvenience until the project is completed.

In the meantime, the PWD has requested that the road be closed to traffic until the end of September. After this period, the road will be reopened. However, once the new tender is finalised and construction on the remaining portion begins, the road will be closed again for further work.

Residents and commuters are advised to take alternate routes to avoid the ongoing disruptions.
