Mangaluru: CCB arrests two peddlers smuggling marijuana from Odisha

Mangaluru, Sep 12: In a significant operation, the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police successfully apprehended two individuals involved in the smuggling and sale of marijuana. The police seized 8.650 kg of the banned substance, valued at Rs 2,60,000, during the operation.

Acting on reliable information, the CCB police uncovered the operation where marijuana was being smuggled from Odisha to Mangaluru for sale. The arrests were made at Talapady Devipura Road, near Thachani, on the Karnataka-Kerala border, where the accused were found selling the illegal substance to the public.

The arrested individuals are Bulubiro (24), son of Jayabiro, from Kirting New Street, Pindiki Post, Gajapati district, Odisha and Dildar Ali (28), son of Syed Ali, from Chabi Mandal, RBC Road, Par Ashariad Lal Gol, Murshidabad, West Bengal.

Along with the seized marijuana, two mobile phones were confiscated, bringing the total value of the seized items to approximately Rs 3 lakh. A case has been registered at Ullal Police Station.

The investigation revealed that the accused were purchasing marijuana from Odisha and transporting it by train to Bengaluru, followed by a bus journey to Mangaluru. Their target customers included the public and students in Karnataka and Kerala. The accused were allegedly selling the drugs to fund a lavish lifestyle.

The operation was led by ACP Manoj Kumar Naik of the CCB unit, along with Inspector Shyam Sundar HM, PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, and other CCB personnel.
