Udupi: Tourists flock to Malpe beach during serial holidays, defy safety fencing

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Sep 16: Large crowds gathered at Malpe Sea Walk and beach on Sunday, taking advantage of the extended holiday for schools and colleges from Saturday to Monday, and the clear weather.

Tourists began arriving at Malpe beach on Saturday morning, and by Sunday, the beach was bustling with people. The district administration had installed fencing to prevent tourists from entering the sea during the monsoon season. However, many tourists ignored the safety barrier on Sunday and ventured into the sea, putting themselves at risk.

The district administration has also permitted boat rides to St Mary’s Island, which started on Sunday. Many visitors took the opportunity to visit the island, with boat services available from both the Sea Walk and near the beach.
