Mangalore, Nov 21: Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder attempt on Ravi alias Ravindra, a rickshaw driver near Airport authority Signal Station, Kandavar village, Bajpe on November 13. Police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh had formed four teams to nab the culprits.

At a press conference held at his office on Monday November 21, Singh told reporters that as per the complaint given by Ravindra Shettigar, an eyewitness at Bajpe police station, the police arrested the main accused Hanif alias Maada Hanif (26), resident near Parimar Masjid, Devasya Mane, Maripalla Pudu village, Bantwal in Farangipet area last night. Also, a weapon and a Maruti Omni car (KA 19 P 2528) have been seized by the police.

The police commissioner revealed that the attempt to kill Ravi was an act of revenge as he had passed on information to the murderers of rowdy sheeter Kabir about the latter's movements. Kabir had been brutally killed with lethal weapons at Charavu, near Gurupur here on February 25 this year.

Police also arrested Abdul Majeed, brother of Kabir and Abdul Rahiman, resident of Addur Manibettu (accused in Candle Santhu murder case) on Monday November 21 morning in Gurupur area.

Already, there are six cases against Hanif, two against Majeed and one against Rahiman.

All three accused were produced before the media without hiding their faces, as all of them were known local people and no identification test was required, according to the police commissioner.

Singh also said that these three had the intention of killing Ravindra and had attacked him with an iron rod, a wooden shaft and a sword and fled the scene assuming him to be dead. But police rushed to the spot immediately and with the help of locals shifted him to a hospital in the city. Singh said that Ravindra is now out of danger and appreciated the police team in maintaining peace in the area on that day.

He also said that more arrests are likely in the coming days, but refused to elaborate further to avoid problems in the investigation. However, he did say that the murder attempt was backed by other hands as it occurred in broad daylight.

On the murder of elderly woman Lalitha Poojary on Saturday November 19, Singh said that Mulky police are investigating the case.

DCPs Mutthuraya and Dharmaiah were present at the press conference.

Revenge is continuing in our society between goondas mainly because of Failure of Law & Justice, Indian Constitution made every one equal in the society but justice will get based on Majority, Allahabad High court’s Babri Masjid verdict is good example? Since independent Minority continuing suffer from injustice, but we respect the Constitution we will fight for justification.

If media is strong even police and politicinas cant do much, Look at tHE example of NITISH KATARA CASE, JESICA LAL CASE, arent the culprits behind bars, inspite of being siblings of national political leaders.Same way this church attackers also must be haunted.Only thing is there must be media like NDTV, never budge to anyone.Unfortunately south karnataka is void of this.

I think the police have not followed the proper proceedures. The 3 who are arrested were not caught red handed and hence identification parade was a must.If those who are arrested insist on identification parade, then it will go against the police as they are already exposed and the identification will go against the set procedure. Anyway, the police must have consulted their legal department.

Mangalore Police Commissionerate need to take extra cautious due to the fact that chain of murder and murder attempt are in rise in the area. This issue is ROWDIES against Rowdies and police action in this context is appreciated. In and around of Mangalore is prone for communal clashes and like this issues are very sensitive that should be bear in mind all concerned.Crimes in any form, any reason should be condemned.

Our beloved Kudla which was a peaceful city few years back was under strict control for criminals during the regime of Gopal Hosoor and Subramanyeshwar Rao.In recent days there is spurt in criminal activities for which all peace loving citizens of Mangalore and abroad are very much concerned on the unfolding of events in criminality. It is high time now to envisage steps to control all these type of activiies with iron hand.Nothins is impossible if police really act with conviction.
