Udupi: 'Dead' Man Alleges Wife of Foul Play to Acquire Land

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 22: Baba alias Babanand from Koytyar in Perdoor in the district has alleged that his wife had, in connivance with some others, procured his death certificate and claimed proceeds of life insurance policy standing in his name, besides getting ownership of his land transferred in her name.

He was addressing a press conference here on Monday November 21. He said he had married Sunanda, working as Anganwadi worker in Perdoor Jogibettu, 18 years ago, and has two children. After differences arose between him and his wife, she drove him out of the house, after which he went to Mumbai and worked on daily wage basis.

“My wife, in connivance with Lalitamba, former president of the local unit of Dharmasthala Village Development Project, Prakash Shetty, N K R Upadhyaya and Sadashiva Manipal, identified the body of a stranger found lying on the railway tracks at Perampalli in 2009 as mine. With their help, my wife procured death certificate. She also claimed insurance amount of Rs 25,000 towards my death, and got my nine cents land in her name on the basis of the death certificate,” he explained.

Baba said that after reading the above details in newspapers dated November 9, 2009, he had written letters to his wife, Perdoor gram panchayat, and Hiriyadka police station, informing them that he was alive. He came to know recently that his land and insurance money had been claimed by his wife. He had filed a private complaint against this fraudulent activity in Udupi court on October 12, 2011, he informed. He also complained that the policemen of Hiriyadka policemen have not been undertaking any investigations in this regard, although they are aware of the fraud.

Perdoor gram panchayat member, Dinesh Hegde, and Suresh Marakala were present at the press conference.

    Blaise,

Trust got to be there in a marriage without which no man or woman will agree to marry each other. The testing period comes after this when we are subjected to challenges of poverty, dominating in-laws, child after child and further responsibility of feeding/educating the children.

You can read from the news who dared to face the challenge and who simply escaped. Now, the children may be grown up, requiring further education, marriage if one or both are girls but the man is after his piece of land and least bothered about children's future !

You turn the case other-way-round and imagine what Babanand would have done if Sunanda had left the house !

How can one prove what Sunanda did is fraud ? Do you all think that she was waiting on Perampally tracks for someone to die and immediately label the dead body as her husband's who left the house before 11 years ? Surely the police may have led her there over some missing complaint filed by her.

Now, if Babanand was not in contact with her or his children, is it her fault or of the police who led her to the dead body or the people who supported her in her ordeal ? She is accused of fraud by the very husband who may have to pay her alimony if she will file for a divorce !

The fact remains that she looked after the children and survived all these years on her own earnings. Why don't you people brand him a cheat to have left her to do all this which is his responsibility too ? Why a woman has to be attached to off-springs and the man gets away so easily ?

Some people can do anything for money, land, jewelry, and etc.,etc. Sunanda managed to obtain a death certificate of her husband Baba who is well and alive through some influential persons. She cashed the insurance policy worth Rs. 25,000/ of her husband and also transfered his 9 cents land on her name.Since Baba is back from Mumbai after coming to know of this fraudulent deal and Sunanda face the police and the court.

I totally agree with Dr. Kamath. Nobody has a right to fraudulently encash on somebody else's money and property that too by giving false declaration of death. There are instruments which she could have made use of and taken away her rights in a lawful and honarable manner. This action on her part is unacceptable and she should be booked for criminal conspiracy to usurp the property of her husband before his death through utter fraudulent means.

ALL HUSBANDS BEWARE, NEVER EVER MARK YOUR ASSETS IN YOUR WIVES AND CHILDRENS NAME DURING YOUR LIFE TIME, OTHER THAN THROUGH A WILL. THERE ARE EXAMPLES GALORE WHERE THE WIFE AND CHILDREN AND OUTSIDERS ARE ENJOYING THE PROCEEDS AND THE TRUE OWNER IS BEGGING ON THE ROAD OR LANGUISHING IN A DECREPIT OLD AGE HOME. WITH UTMOST RESPECT TO THE FEMALE CLAN!!!!

This man married 18 years ago, fathered two children and left the house over some dispute. In 2009 (before two years) she identified some body to be his. Where was he until such things happened ? Where are his earnings of all these years ? Does the man have any concern what they ate and how she raised his children for 15-16 years ?

He should rather grant the ownership of the land to her instead he is trying to prove her fraudulent ! Who will the public sympathy with ? Is it hers alone responsibility to raise them ? Hats off to the lady and those who helped her.

Each and every husbands got moral rights to take care of their family , wife and children in particular. Mr. Baba might be one among the unlucky who failed to take his impressibility.

Wives also give much preferences to the financial matters and positions of their husbands .

Mrs. Baba may be so much money minded if Mr.Babas statements are true. This should not happen.

Relations stands first,,,,money will be secondary

Dear Dr.Kamath, you will be surprised to see the responses to the UID project. The rural as well as urban people are not interested for UID registration.i=It is 2012 in few weeks of time and People of India do not have a ID card to prove thier identity.Ths incident could have alerted to insurance and to the police if they had a UID which can reflect in every record of every department if implimented as it is proposed by Mr.Nilekani.I stood in the line and got it registred at a post office in Mangalore and also checked with the staff and shocked to see that not even ten percent have registerd yet in Mangalore city.

Very poignant story. These sort of cases are becoming very common now. There are so many cases where duplicate POAs are used to usurp the property of innocent/senile relatives. Since the rates of property have gone up through the roof all are after property now. Human values have stooped down to abysmally low levels today and our Mangluru is already famous for usurping properties of close relatives!!!

Why did this person wait for so long? He should have presented himself at the press conference in 2009. Did no one notice while cremating, that he was not the actual person? Looks like all were involved in claiming the life insurance money. A thorough investigation will bring out the truth.
