Mangaluru, Sep 19: Reishan Maria Fernandes, a talented student from St Agnes School ( CBSE ), has reached a remarkable academic milestone through her stellar performance in the Wiz International Spell Bee competition. This prestigious competition, structured across three stages - school level, state evel, and the national mega final - showcased her exceptional spelling prowess and linguistic mastery.
The journey began at the school level, where participants from various states undertook a comprehensive written test assessing their spelling accuracy and grammar expertise. Among 500 students from class 6 in Mangaluru city, Reishan, along with 45 other promising candidates from different schools, qualified for the next stage—state level.
At the state level, the challenge intensified as candidates faced spoken rounds, where they were required to spell words aloud and articulate their meanings in front of judges. Contestants were eliminated after misspelling any word from the 21st round onwards. Demonstrating remarkable precision and composure, Reishan emerged as the state champion, securing the prestigious first rank out of 400 participants.
Advancing to the national mega final, Reishan competed among the top 25 performers from each state. This stage demanded not only flawless spelling but also the ability to decode complex pronunciation keys and provide accurate meanings of words. Out of 450 competitors from across India, Reishan achieved an impressive 7th Rank, solidifying her position as one of the country’s finest young spellers. She has been awarded with a trophy, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1000 from the Wiz International Spell bee.
In recognition of her extraordinary performance, Reishan has earned the opportunity to compete in the '2024 SPELLPUNDIT World Spelling Championship', a globally renowned event that gathers the best spellers from around the world.
