Lourdes Central School organizes breast cancer Awareness programme

Mangaluru, Sep 20: To bring about awareness of breast cancer, a session was organized at Lourdes Central School for all staff members on September 20 in the Conference Hall which was conducted by Dr Jnaneshwari Jayaram MBBS, MS, MCH a renowned doctor specialized in breast and endocrine surgery from Father Muller Hospital Kankanady, Mangaluru.

The programme began with a prayer song followed by the welcome address by the vice principal Belita Mascarenhas.

The principal Fr Johnson L Sequeira felicitated the chief guest with a floral bouquet and a memento.

Dr Jnaneshwari in her talk mentioned that breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among women worldwide. A well-maintained effort in awareness and early detection is needed with the increasing incidence rates. Early intervention is crucial, as many cases are without symptoms, approximately 95% of breast cancers do not present pain initially.

Striving for awareness and a culture of detection around breast cancer is essential to improve health outcomes. By promoting routine self-examinations, timely screenings, and education about breast cancer symptoms, people take the first steps towards early detection and a much improved chance of survival. To further facilitate awareness, a video was shown on detention, causes and prevention.

She clarified the queries from a few staff members and later breast examination was organized for the staff members in the medical room.

Prathima Rodrigues, the school nurse compered the programme and expressed the words of gratitude.

The programme was beneficial for the entire staff as it brought to knowledge important aspects on prevention of breast cancer.
