Kundapur, Sep 21: In a scene reminiscent of a movie, a high-speed car chase unfolded on NH 66, involving two vehicles with a group of young people. The incident occurred around 3 pm on Thursday but gained public attention only two days later.

Reports indicate that one car was racing from Bhatkal to Kundapur with four occupants, while another car followed closely behind.

It is said that the first car contained two boys and two girls. After a sudden stop at Asthe, the first car dropped off the girls and continued at high speed. Witnesses from the villages of Mahabaleshwara and Katkeri, noticing the unusual activity, decided to pursue both vehicles.

As the chase reached Nandanavana, the occupants of one car attempted to escape by abandoning their vehicle near a rivulet. However, local youths and women quickly intervened, apprehending two of the individuals. In a twist, those in the second car claimed that the first group had stolen their vehicle and was engaged in illegal activities.

Authorities later discovered lethal weapons inside the first car, prompting the Byndoor police to be notified. Upon arrival, they detained the accused, who allegedly threatened the locals, saying they would “take them to task if they come to Bhatkal.”

The incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking discussions about public safety and vigilantism. The Byndoor police continue their investigation into the matter.
