Udupi, Sep 26: The wild elephant menace is increasing in the Kucchur area of Hebri taluk, with several farmlands being destroyed by herds of pachyderms.
A lone tusker has been roaming in the Someshwara Reserve Forest, under Nadpalu gram panchayat limits, for the past four months. Recently, it entered the Kucchur Matkal area, destroying plantain and coconut trees on the farmland of Ananda Naika. It also uprooted an arecanut tree near the house of Annaiah Ambiga. Forest department officials have visited the site.
Forest officer Chidanandappa advised residents not to venture out alone at night in the Kucchur area, and the department is closely monitoring the tusker's movements.
