Srinivas University inaugurates ceremony of Cybercrime Grievance Redressal Committee

Mangaluru, Sep 27: The department of cybersecurity and cyber forensics at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Mukka, successfully hosted the inaugural function of the Cybercrime Grievance Redressal Committee on September 25. The event marked a significant milestone in the institution's commitment to addressing cyber-related issues.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sathish M P, police inspector at cybercrime economic narcotics police station, Mangaluru, as the chief guest. The president of the function, Dr Satyanarayan Reddy, vice-chancellor of Srinivas University, presided over the event. The dean of the college, Dr Ramakrishna Hegde N, and the head of the department of cybersecurity and cyber forensics, Dr Krishna Prasad K, were also in attendance, along with the faculty coordinator for the committee, Vyshak R, and the student coordinator, Shravan Kumar UK.

The programme began with a warm welcome by Filishiya Sequeira, who emphasized the critical need for such a committee in today’s digital landscape. Following this, Vyshak R extended a formal welcome to the chief guest, vice-chancellor, and other dignitaries.

The dignitaries were then honoured florally, and the ceremonial lamp was lit by Sathish M P, Dr Satyanarayan Reddy, Dr Krishna Prasad K, Vyshak R, and Shravan Kumar UK, along with committee members Varad Milind Borade, Shashank M B, and Regan Elston Temudo.

In his address, Sathish M P shared insights from his experience, discussing prevalent cybercrimes such as trading scams and phishing, and advised students on maintaining cyber hygiene and the importance of app permissions. He stressed the necessity of downloading applications only from trusted sources like the Play Store.

Shravan Kumar UK outlined the committee’s objectives, detailing the redressal mechanisms in place to assist students facing cyber issues. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Krishna Prasad K, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries and contributors.

The successful launch of the cybercrime grievance redressal committee represents a proactive step by Srinivas University towards fostering a safer cyber environment for its students and community.
