Monthi Fest celebrated with devotion, tradition by Konkani Samudhai in Netherlands

Media Release

Hoofddorp, Sep 30: The Konkani Catholic community in the Netherlands gathered with great anticipation to celebrate the annual Monthi Fest, organized by the Konkani Samudhai Netherlands (KSN) at the Joannes de Doperkerk.

The festivities commenced with a cherished tradition, where children venerated Mother Mary with flowers, followed by the blessing of paddy stalks by Fr Richard Lobo SVD and Fr Albert Toppo SVD, symbolizing the new harvest. The Holy Mass, filled with soulful hymns by the choir and an insightful homily, emphasized devotion, tradition, and community. Fr Richard shared reflections on Sodvon (salvation), Sankriti (tradition), and Samudai (community).

In a spirit of giving, the community contributed to the local food bank, adding a sense of brotherhood and solidarity to the event. After the Holy Mass, a cultural program allowed attendees to mingle and strengthen their bonds. The afternoon's highlight was a delightful lunch featuring Konkani delicacies like pork bafat, kuvalo polov, chana sukkha, sannas, salad, and the sweet treat vorn. Party games and the all-time favorite housie/tambola kept spirits high. The event concluded with lively Baila dance numbers, bringing the day to a perfect close.

Fr Richard Lobo SVD expressed his gratitude to everyone for their support, emphasizing the importance of unity and shared traditions in strengthening the faith and culture of the Konkani community in the Netherlands.
