Udupi, Sep 30: A newly built bus stop, sponsored by Silas International School and Silas PU College at Hanumanthnagara, Udupi, was inaugurated on September 30.

Rathnappa Maben, founder of Silas International School, inaugurated the bus stop as part of a commemorative gesture on his 77th birthday.

Rathnappa Maben was honoured by local residents and various institutions for his noble contribution.

Speaking on the occasion, Yuvaraj P, former president of Udupi CMC, said, "There was a dire need for a bus stop in this area. People had to wait for buses in the rain and sun without shelter. Thanks to the efforts of our local CMC member Santhosh Jathan and the generous gesture of Rathnappa Maben, this facility has now been provided. We request the continued support of the school administration in the future and ensure our support for all school activities."

Santhosh Jathan expressed gratitude to Rathnappa Maben for his generosity, stating, "As soon as I requested this facility, he immediately agreed. The bus stop was built at a cost of Rs 3.5 lac. It's a memorable occasion to inaugurate the bus stop on the donor's birthday. We have two international-level schools in our locality, and both have provided bus stops for the benefit of the local community, showcasing their generosity."

Present at the event were Santosh Maben, son of Rathnappa Maben; Deirdra S Maben, academic director; Sharlet Maben, daughter; and local leaders Nagesh Amin, Rajesh Jathan, Bhanu, Annappa, along with the faculty of Silas International School and Silas PU College.
