Mangaluru, Oct 4: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School commemorated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on October 2 with a meaningful programme held in the school auditorium. The event began with a prayer song, setting a reflective tone for the day.
Lionel Shawn from class 7 extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and the audience.
Sridevi of class 6 and Akshaj N Pai of class 7 enlightened the audience with speeches on the significance of the occasion, highlighting the values of truth and non-violence embodied by the National leaders being honored.
The dignitaries, teachers and parents paid floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Dr BR Ambedkar. The students then sang the iconic "Raghupati Raghava Rajaram" followed by an energetic dance performance to 'Vande Mataram', as a tribute to the great leaders of the nation.
In his address, assistant headmaster Liya D’Souza spoke about Mahatma Gandhi’s invaluable contribution to India's independence through non-violence. He also emphasized the contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri and Dr B R Ambedkar, stating that India’s strength today lies in its unity, thanking to the constitutions that have shaped by Dr B R Ambedkar. Liya D'Souza also highlighted the importance of a Tobacco-Free India. He also urged the students to plant trees, encouraging them to name each tree 'Amma' as a symbol of respect for both nature and motherhood. He also underscored the importance of keeping homes and surroundings clean in line with the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' initiative.
To further this message, saplings were distributed to some students and mothers, who promised to nurture and protect them.
In addition, students who excelled in district-level swimming competitions were recognized and awarded during the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sara Yashal of class 7, followed by the national anthem.
As a closing gesture, few mothers planted saplings in the school premises, with students vowing to care for the 'Amma' saplings, thus reaffirming their commitment to protecting the environment.
Sweets were distributed to all the students, making the day a memorable one.
