Udupi: Govt Pre-University College NSS unit inaugurates annual special camp

Udupi, Oct 4: Education is not just about learning within the confines of four walls. True education lies in responding to one's surroundings and living in a socially responsible manner, said Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president of the Badagabettu Cooperative Society. He was speaking at the inauguration of the annual special camp organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the Government Girls' Pre-University College, Udupi, at Malpe Government Pre-University College (High School section) on October 3.

He emphasized that programmes like NSS help instil discipline among students through service and urged students to make the most of the opportunities provided to them.

Gopal C Bangera, president of the Malpe Pre-University College Alumni Association, who was the chief guest, noted that such camps help develop leadership qualities in students. He also highlighted the revered position of teachers in society and encouraged students to respect and follow their guidance.

Speaking on the occasion, Varghese P, principal of Malpe Government Pre-University College, urged students to maintain discipline during the camp and implement what they learn in their lives, becoming responsible citizens.

Maruti, deputy director of the School Education Department, who presided over the event, remarked that along with education, students must respect their teachers and elders. He stressed the importance of the youth's role in the country's development and called on everyone to work towards building a strong nation.

The event saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Sandhya, principal of the High School section of Malpe Government Pre-University College, Jagadish Salyan, president of the School Development Committee, Nirupama Prasad Shetty, vice principal of the Government Girls' Pre-University College, Yogesh K Kotyan, president of the Education Service Committee, Suma Anand Naik, a member of the Education Service Committee, Indira, principal of the High School section of the Government Girls' Pre-University College, and Shekhar Kotyan, treasurer of the Education Service Committee.

Bhavya Nagraj, NSS camp officer, welcomed the gathering. Dr Suma S conducted the programme, while Gangadhar, an English lecturer, proposed a vote of thanks.

The camp, which runs until October 9, will focus on campus and playground cleanliness, promoting a plastic-free environment, handicraft training, and programmes on life values.
