Kundapur, Nov 28: Two women died on Monday November 28 when a truck belonging to a major transport company hit them. The accident occured on national highway 66 at around 12.30 pm.

The deceased have been identified as 55-year-old Cosessa D’Souza, a native of Chikansal, here and Liloo. Both were members of a self-help-group, promoted by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP).

Cosessa D'Souza

On Monday the two were walking back home after depositing their money in a nearby bank, when the truck rammed into them. It is said that the truck driver lost control and went off the edge of the road while giving way for another vehicle. The uneven load in the truck is believed to be the cause for the accident. Both the women were crushed to death underneath the truck.

An Alto car that was parked nearby was also damaged in the accident. Luckily, the car's owner, a pharmacist, had gone inside the bank for some work, while his family members had got out of the car due to heat and were taking shelter under a tree. It was a miraculous escape for them all.

Traffic police arrived at the spot and cleared the truck off the road and restored normal traffic on the highway.

The truck driver and the cleaner sustained minor injuries.

Town police registered a case in this regard and further investigations are on.

Cosessa Mami, may your soul REST IN PEACE.. God grant you eternal bliss... God give Franky Mama who is sick and his sons courage to bear dis irreparable loss. My heart pours out to the boys who are left motherless for no fault of theirs but the reckless driver who is to be blamed.

I was first hand witness of this horrific accident.Unlike as reported in the media, the truck driver was completely at fault and was driving on the right side of the road right after Sangam hotel uptil the accident site and was about to hit a pedestrian who was waiting to cross the road in front of the Market. My brother and I had parked our car on the right side of the highway when this truck sped fast at us possibly at 80-90KMPH. My sister who was sitting inside the car felt the vibration of the car when the truck sped past us, 4 feet away from where we parked our car. He was speeding too fast to turn his vehicle to the left without overturning. Both my brother and I were shell shocked and were contemplating that this driver had set his mind to cause an accident. Very tragic and unfortunate. Accident could have been easily avoided had the driver had common sense that one cannot easily maneuver fully loaded truck at 80-90KMPH without overturning. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

I have just arrived this morning in Mumbai from M'lore after attending this funeral

My aunt and her friend both died a martyrs death to save a bus load of passengers which wud have toppled instead and saved all passengers on board n gave up their lives instead in the most horrific death dat cud have happened to one of the most beautiful souls on earth ! Dat she was ! A caring and self sacrificing woman in her late fifties who gave until it hurts both in life and in death…She leaves behind 4 young sons and an invalid husband whom she nursed with dedication!!

The boys were uncontrollable and in a severe state of shock – the first time I ever did see “boys” letting go !!! The funeral was grand with a huge turn out and not a single soul in the congregation who dint shed a tear for this noble woman!! Even the local MLAs came to pay their last respects..It was the most gruesome and the freakiest accident that covered the Mangalore television and news papers there…

We just pray that the family and all of us will be able to recover from this great and unexpected shock that has hit us all!

Kosu Moushi You will be sorely missed and none can replace you presence in our midst :'((

Eternal Rest ...unto You...Foreve Amen !!

Two productive lives perished for no fault of theirs. If it was in a air crash the huge compensation would have been a solace to the bereaved family. What sort of compensation will they get??? A very important issue to be debated on.

Kosu Mousi, We just cant believe you are no more, so sudden & unexpected. We are still in a shock hearing this news.

It is a great loss for all of us who knew you.

We will remember you always for the good times we had at your place & your excellent meals
during our childhood in Andheri Parsiwada, where u all lived earlier.

My mother, (i.e) your sister was just lucky to spend a few days with you last month. Who knew, that it would be the last time she would see you.

I know, she was a great mother, wife, aunt and sister. We can all be thankful that we had her in our lives & continue to remember her as the great person she was.

Things sometimes, seem so hopeless & out of control, however, we know that with God's help we all will make it through this tragic time.

Kosu Mausi, you will be deeply missed by all, both in our immediate and extended families.

We will remember you in our thoughts and prayers & pray that uncle & our cousins will find the strength & courage to overcome this loss as days go by.

May your soul rest in peace.

This is how death is coming like a thief. After finishing daily routine work, both these poor ladies left for heavenly abode. Very sad and very unfortunate. Lord reward them with eternal rest for their sacrifice and hard work.

"The uneven load/& heavy load "is the cause of Accident..Why not punish the greedy transporters? Why people dont protest for peoples right..Are we good enough only to organise protest against each others religion...

Very tragic accident. May the deceased's souls RIP! Miraculous escape for the occupants of the Alto. The severe heat made them stay out of the car and saved their lives. This stretch from Kundapura to Mangalore is one of the most accident prone zone in India I suppose!!

Sad story repeating again and again.....almost everyday in NH 66(Formerly NH 17)....drivers need to be educated well before giving Driving Licenses.
