Mangaluru, Oct 7: Addressing the press about the tragic suicide of Mumtaz Ali, brother of former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa, Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal stated that a Look Out Circular (LOC) has been issued against the six individuals against whom an FIR is registered.

He said, "In the early hours of Sunday, Mumtaz Ali jumped into the Phalguni river from the Kulur bridge. A case was registered at Kavoor police station, identifying it as an attempted suicide. Despite extensive search operations conducted throughout Sunday, his body was not recovered until around 10:30 am the next morning.

“Mumtaz Ali’s family filed a complaint at Kavoor police station, alleging that he was being blackmailed in a honey-trap scheme by six individuals. The family believes these individuals were blackmailing him with a video involving him and a woman. Before ending his life, Mumtaz Ali sent a voice message to his family group, in which he revealed that he had already given Rs 50 lac to the accused and had issued a cheque for another Rs 25 lac.

“In his voice message, Mumtaz mentioned several people, including the accused Sattar. The woman involved, Rehmath, is not related to Mumtaz. We will conduct a thorough investigation.

“Mumtaz had earlier collided with a private bus near the MCF gate before making a U-turn, arriving at the Kulur bridge, and jumping into the river. A LOC has been issued against the six accused individuals,” the commissioner added.
