BOSS committee organizes Bunts of Oman annual sports meet

Oman, Oct 8: The BOSS trophy, the annual sports meet for the Bunts community of Oman took place on October 4 at Al Hail Sports Ground in the Sultanate of Oman.

It was another joyous occasion for the Bunts community to reunite and participate in a variety of sports and games organized by the Bunts Oman Sanskrutika Sammilana (BOSS) Committee, to commensurate the momentous 35th Annual Gathering. More than 500 Bunts attended the event, with impressive participation from distant areas like Salalah, Barka, Nizwa, and Sohar. The sports meet was inaugurated with the lighting of a lamp, symbolizing peace and harmony among the Bunts in Oman.

The sporting events began after a sumptuous and energizing traditional breakfast followed by refreshments, traditional lunch, and dinner. Despite of scorching heat and blazing sun, all the participants demonstrated incredible sportsmanship and enthusiasm, making the day truly special. Their energy and commitment were inspiring, and it was heart-warming to see everyone come together, compete, and support one another. This spirit of solidarity is what makes bunts community so vibrant and inspiring.

Lush green lawns of the Muscat Sports Club ground at Al hail Sports ground, was the perfect setting for a beautiful day of sports, games, fun and enjoyment for all participating members as well as children. The entire event was meticulously planned and expertly executed by the committee and their dedicated team of volunteers. Additionally, the ladies' wing of the BOSS committee played a significant role in organizing various games. In his vote of thanks, Shashidhar Shetty expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the patrons for their support in making the event a grand success. All committee members and volunteers had gone out of the way to ensure that the entire bunts community in Oman had an occasion to participate and live the day to the fullest extent with beautiful memories to carry home.

The BOSS 2024 organizing committee consists of Saroja S Shetty, Shashidhara Shetty Mallar, Sudheera D Shetty, Diwakar Shetty Mallar, Shaina G Shetty, Ganesh V Shetty, Vanishree N Shetty, Nagesh Shetty Kinnigoly, Shreya M Shetty, Manoj Jayaram Shetty, Anusha S Rai, Shishir Rai, Suraksha H Rai, Harshith Rai.

The prize distribution ceremony was conducted at the end of the day. Organising committee presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up respectively as follows:

Men's tenex ball cricket winner: Abhimanyu Bunts Mangaluru (captain: Yashwanth Shetty), runner: Guthu 11 Sohar (captain: Deepak Shetty).

Men's soft ball cricket winner: Thaulava Bolpu (captain: Likith Shetty), runner: Abhimanyu Bunts Bantwala (captain: Lokesh Shetty).

Men's volleyball winner: Buntera Jawaner (captain: Preetham Shetty), runner: Thaulava Bolpu (captain: Bharath Shetty).

Women’s cricket winner: Rani Abbakka (captain: Nayana Shetty), runner: Onake Obavva (captain: Sandhya Shetty).

Women's throwball winner: Barkuru Rani (captain: Veena Shetty), runner: Tulunad Siri (captain: Bharathi Rai).

Meanwhile the BOSS committee is gearing up to celebrate 35 years of their journey in Oman. They will come together in unity and solidarity to promote a variety of ethnic, social, and value-based activities to mark this important milestone in October and November 2024.

KGF, Kesarugadde Gold Fields Ethnic sports day: A day dedicated for Ethnic sports & games with creation of ‘Kambala Gadde’ a slushy and muddy paddy field nurtured with wet clay. The highlights of event include kambala race, treasure hunt, goodeepa making contest, rangoli drawing contest, shakti kallu, tampangai etc.

BOSS cultural activities & family day: This special day promises new opportunities with renewed energy. The theme of the event, ‘Vocal for Local’ aims to highlight the hidden talents of community members residing in Muscat. It will feature a stage for a full day of cultural activities, showcasing the talents of children, men and women from the community. A large number of members are enrolled to participate. The events are open to all who uphold Bunts culture and heritage.
