Riyadh: KWAR 'Karavali Parba' Wins Hearts, Underscores Harmony

Riyadh, Nov 29: An example of unity between different communities unfolded in Riyadh, as Karavali Welfare Association (KWAR) successfully organized the grand cultural extravaganza ‘Karavali Parba 2011’ here recently.

The event was inaugrated by lighting the lamp by KWAR president Ramesh Shetty and other office-bearers, followed by games for men, women and kids organised by sports secretaries Satish Amin, Prakash Shetty and Abulaziz Bankal. Karavali traditional games like 'tarai katta', 'pot breaking' and 'tug-of-war' were the special attractions of the evening. Women and kids were kept engaged with fun-filled games arranged by the ladies wing of KWAR.

McDonald's team entertained the kids with spot games, face painting and attractive prizes.

A delicious dinner was served to the crowd immediately after the game events. The gathered crowd thoroughly enjoyed the Mangalorean dishes being served.

A free medical camp was organised by Kadesiah Medical Center, spearheaded by Dr Vanishree and Santosh Shetty.

Soon after dinner the formal programme started. Bader al Abdul Jabbar and Mohammed al Abdul Jabbar, managing directors of Othman Trading were the chief guests of the event. Vice-president Royston Prabhu and general secretary Rajesh Kumar were on dais. KWAR president Ramesh Shetty began the event with a welcome note. In his speech, Shetty highlighted the efforts of KWAR in getting direct flight to Mangalore, and also mentioned the assurance given by Sadananda Gowda, chief minister of Karnataka during his recent interaction with him. He further outlined  KWAR’s continued support to the needy, and expressed his gratitude to all the members and the sponsors and appealed to the audience to join KWAR in more numbers.

The cultural programme was compered by Parvez Ali , Euromarche and Bhaskar P M, led by Arun D'Souza, cultural secretary, KWAR, who did a wonderful job on their maiden emceeing venture. A wide variety of stage performances like dances, skits and songs were put up by members, much to the delight of the audience. The dance performances of all the children were commendable, well-choreographed and presented. 'Guttuda Elle' mini drama performed by BARSA group and a live band orchestra comprising local singers entertained the crowd with Tulu, Kannada, Konkani and Hindi Songs. The programme concluded with singing of the National Anthem.

Besides, there were many individual sponsors. Air Arabia, Jet Airways and Air India sponsored two free tickets each and Dnata Travel sponsored one air ticket to any destination from Riyadh.

The event truly was a testimony of KWAR's slogan 'Unity is our strength'.
